FESTIVITIES galore were on offer in Denton this weekend when the annual carnival and fun day took place.
Tameside Radio’s 103.6FM Wayne Kay did a live broadcast from their radio car, whilst in the parade, as they did last year which got them Best Commercial Entry for Innovation. Sorry Wayne The horses beat you this year. Ah!! well there’s always next year. Since Tameside Radio’s involvement and constant media coverage of this event it has gone from strength to strength. Well Done Tameside Radio.
The carnival procession left Two Trees School, Haughton Green, at 12.40pm on Sunday (September 12), after a short delay for an unfortunate RTA, travelling along Two Trees Lane, Stockport Road, Crown Point, Manchester Road, Acre Street and Duke Street, arriving at Victoria Park at around 1.45pm
And that’s where the fun continued throughout the afternoon. Among the attractions were performances from the Buxton Billerettes, Carrieann’s Dancers, Tameside Titans, Fairfield Tigers, the Scouts Samba Band, Tameside Sports Development Dance Camp and Base Performing Arts Singers.
There was also comedy from Turbo and Dai, two friends, a ghetto blaster and some lino from Turbo’s ma’s kitchen and fantastic demonstrations from Team Evade Martial Arts.
Tameside Radio’s Wayne Kay hosted the afternoon in the park in his own inimitable style and kept the action flowing, ably assisted by the rest of the Tameside Radio Crew Phil Motttram & Co.
Free activities included face and henna painting, craft activities and opportunities to visit Denton Scouts, Denton Arts Society and Rochdale Hedgehog Rescue, and the inflatables were as usual busy and plenty tried their hand at the bucking bronco.
Admission to Victoria Park was free as was all the activities
A large funfair which had been there from Friday, on the Saxon Street car park, was a roaring success
Parade organizer Cllr Margaret Downs, chair of Denton and Audenshaw District Assembly, said, before Carnival Day: “Denton Carnival is all about fun and if you want to get involved, there’s still time. Just give me a call on 336 9354. “We want people to really enjoy themselves and, touch wood, we’ll be lucky with the weather.”
Well, we certainly was Cllr Downs, after an early spot of rain the skies cleared and made Denton Carnival the Great Day out it always is FUN * FUN * FUN
